T.E.K. Workshops for Mechoopda & Maidu Tribal communities in November!

Willow Workshop – Saturday, November 19, 9:00am – 1:00pmWe will be learning identification of the four willow species present at Verbena Fields, coppicing techniques for gathering basket materials, and how to bundle basket materials in the Maidu tradition for curing and storage.
Plant ID and Seed Gathering – Sunday, November 20, 9:00am – 1:00pmWe will be going over native plant and species identifications at Verbena Fields, examining native plant communities in the woodland, riparia, and meadow ecological zones. We will also gather seeds from plants that are in season and demonstrate techniques for planting and storage.
Grapevine Wreathmaking – Saturday, November 26, 9:00am – 1:00pmWe will learn how to identify and gather native grapevines and using the excess material to create and bind grapevine wreaths. We will also gather other native species to embellish and store within the wreaths for both ornamental and medicinal use.
