Members of the Mechoopda Indian Tribe have lived in Butte County for many thousands of years. They recognize and appreciate the area's spectacular beauty and are committed to protecting the environment they proudly call home. They are equally committed to being a force for good in neighboring communities.
For more than three years, the Tribe has conducted outreach meetings with elected officials, members of the community and other interested parties in an effort to identify and address potential off-reservation impacts of the development project. The Tribe looks forward to further engaging in direct government-to-government negotiations with the County and are hopeful that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which specifies contributions for such items as road improvements, sheriff, fire and emergency services, can be negotiated.
Once the gaming facility becomes operational, Mechoopda will be able to improve the quality of life for members of the Tribe and is committed to making a positive impact in the Butte County region. The Mechoopda Indian Tribe looks forward to the day that it can give back to the community and help support the regional needs in education, health, arts and humanities, environment, community development and social services.
As a federally recognized Indian tribe and sovereign government, the Mechoopda Indian Tribe will receive no tax advantage for making a charitable contribution to any group.
